Along with Wednesday’s casting news, Disney+ released a featurette with Keke Palmer, Waithe, Douglas, Normani, and Pratt talking about what the show’s animated characters such as Suga Mama, Oscar, and Penny meant to them.
“I did The Proud Family when I was 14 years old, and I didn’t realize the impact that it had on me recording it, it was having that same impact on the people who were watching,” Pratt said.
Waithe added, “It was so relatable. It was very specific. It looked like our family and it was irreverent.”

Other characters on the revival will be voiced by EJ Johnson and Billy Porter. Johnson (Rich Kids of Beverly Hills) takes on the character of Michael Collins, the best guy friend of new character, 14-year-old Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins. Collins is a non-conforming trendsetter who is all about fashion. In the original series, the part was voiced by Phil LaMarr.
Porter will portray Randall Leibowitz-Jenkins alongside additional cast member Zachary Quinto (Star Trek), who will voice the role of Barry Leibowitz-Jenkins. The two characters are the mixed-race adoptive parents of activist Maya. Palmer will voice the character of Maya in the reboot.
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will debut in 2022. An official premiere date will be announced later.
