Jennifer Lopez and Omari Hardwick go after bad guys with guns blazing in the trailer for Netflix’s The Mother.
Lopez leads the cast of the thriller as “The Mother,” a military-trained assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she gave up years earlier, while on the run from dangerous men.
In the trailer released Tuesday, Lopez tells Hardwick she left her daughter “with good people to keep her safe.”
Unfortunately, the criminals eventually find the girl.
“What do they want?” Hardwick asks. “Revenge,” Lopez responds. “They’re using her to get to me.”

After years of hiding out in the Alaskan wilderness, “The Mother” is suddenly forced back into action.
“I’m a killer. But I’m also a mother and I will die protecting her,” Lopez says as she fires guns and sets off explosions.
The cast also includes Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Paul Raci and Gael García Bernal.
The film is directed by Niki Caro (The Zookeeper’s Wife, Whale Rider) from a script written by Misha Green, Andrea Berloff and Peter Craig. Green was showrunner on the critically acclaimed HBO series Lovecraft Country.
Lopez serves as a producer on The Mother, alongside Benny Medina, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Marc Evans, and Misha Green.
The film was originally scheduled for release last year, but faced delays in making it to the screen.
The Mother will be released on Netflix Friday, May 12, just in time for Mother’s Day.
