A man was taken into custody after he allegedly threatened a crew member with a knife on the set of Michael B. Jordan’s upcoming film Miami Vice ’85.

Alex Perez, 23, was taken into custody around 11:15 p.m. on Oct. 23, near Avenue N and McDonald Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, the NYPD told Entertainment Weekly.

Officers responded after a 42-year-old crew member reported having a “verbal dispute with an individual who then displayed a knife, causing him to become fearful for his safety.”

Police said Perez was arrested without incident. He faces charges of menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. No injuries were reported.

TMZ published footage of the arrest and reported Perez allegedly brandished a large butcher knife, then shouted the N-word when he was placed in handcuffs.

The incident happened  as production continues on Universal Pictures’ revival of the classic crime series, with Jordan playing Detective Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs opposite Austin Butler as Detective James “Sonny” Crockett.

As Urban Hollywood 411 previously reported, Universal released the first photos of the actors in character on Oct. 12.

While the series is set in South Florida, the story has a New York connection. The film draws inspiration from the original drama’s pilot and the first season, which introduced Tubbs as a New York detective who travels to Miami.

Top Gun: Maverick filmmaker Joseph Kosinski is directing, with Dan Gilroy and Eric Warren Singer involved in the screenplay.

Last week, John Leguizamo shared a post on Instagram revealing he co-stars in the film, after previously having a role on the TV series.

“Some kind of karmic loop! I was Calderone jr. in Miami Vice [in] 1986 and now I am Calderone sr. 2026 in the new Miami Vice movie with the great movie star @michaelbjordan and his equally brilliant cohort @_austinbutler,” the actor captioned the post.

The original Miami Vice starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas and aired on NBC from 1984 to 1989.

The show’s undercover investigations, pastel suits and fast cars helped make the series a cultural phenomenon.

Michael Mann later directed a 2006 movie adaptation starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. Universal plans to release the new film in May 2028.
