And Just Like That star Sara Ramirez said their character Che Diaz won’t return for season 3 of the Max series.

Ramirez, who uses they/them pronouns, posted a lengthy statement on Instagram Tuesday (Jan. 16), saying artists who support Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas face being banished from Hollywood.

The Grey’s Anatomy alum wrote, “Our industry is so duplicitous. While they give awards away, casting directors and agents are making black lists of actors and workers who post anything in support of Palestinians and Gaza to ensure they will not work again. While they lift up some of their own clients who have spoken up against this genocide, they are firing and letting others who have smaller platforms go.”

They continued, “While they award ‘lgbtq orgs’, they are silent on those orgs’ ties to weapons manufacturers who are currently supporting the Israel military as it commits genocide on Palestinian lives that include LGBTQIA2S+ lives. I get it. Awards are shiny and people need to pay their rent or feel special and powerful.”

Ramirez frequently shares videos on social media from protests and messages in support of Palestinians.

They uploaded the post about the industry being “duplicitous” one day after Monday’s Emmy Awards, where LGBTQ rights organization GLAAD received the Governors Award for making a profound contribution to the arts.

For two seasons Ramirez has played stand-up comedian and podcaster Che Diaz on And Just Like That. The divisive character had a steamy relationship with Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and faced anger from fans on social media after dumping Miranda.

On Wednesday, the Daily Mail reported Ramirez “has officially been dropped” from the show’s upcoming third season.

The outlet quoted an unnamed show insider who described the character as a “waste of airtime.”

“Sara was not fired because they support Palestine and the cease fire,” the insider said. “Sara was fired because Che brought nothing to the show anymore. They were on the chopping block since last season.”

The insider added that fans were fed up with the character.

“After Che split with Miranda, the character really held no value anymore and fans found them annoying. The storyline as a struggling comedian was a waste of airtime and Sara knew it,” the individual said.

A rep for Sara Ramirez did not respond to the outlet’s request for a statement, and Max declined comment.
