Netflix’s The Upshaws returns later this month with season 2 and the new trailer has a cliffhanger that will test the Upshaw family’s unity.

In the trailer released on Wednesday, Bennie Upshaw (played by Mike Epps) is shown interacting with his friends and exchanging insults with his sister-in-law Lucretia Turner (Wanda Sykes), while Bennie’s wife Regina (Kim Fields) is shown raising the family and trying out a new hair routine.

Their daughters Aaliyah and Maya (played by Khali Spraggins and Journey Christine), firstborn son Bernard Upshaw Jr. (Jermelle Simon), and Bennie’s teenage son Kelvin (Diamond Lyons) he fathered with another woman (Gabrielle Dennis) are all going through some of life’s changes together.

By the end of the trailer, Regina is in the living room with the rest of the family and says, “Can’t nothing touch the Upshaws.”

Bennie responds, “Come on, Baby! Say that again.” Suddenly there’s a knock on the door and a girl asks, “Is this where Bennie Upshaw lives?”

“Who’s asking?” Kim responds. “His daughter,” the girl responds.

Bennie is as surprised as the rest of the family. “Really?” Lucretia asks as Bennie shakes his head in disbelief. The trailer ends before we learn more.

The Upshaws is executive produced by Epps, Sykes, Regina Y. Hicks, Page Hurwitz and Niles Kirchner.

The sitcom premiered on Netflix in 2021 and centers around a working-class African American family in Indiana struggling to make it work and make it right without the blueprints to do it.

The first part of season 2 of The Upshaws premieres June 29 with eight new 30-minute episodes.
