The intense pressure that comes with being a world-class athlete brings Simone Biles to tears in the trailer for the upcoming Netflix documentary series Simone Biles: Rising.

The Olympic gold medalist offers a glimpse of her grueling training routine in the trailer for the series.

“I wanted to quit like 500,000 times and I would have if it weren’t for my people,” she says in the video.

In another part of the trailer, the Ohio native wipes away tears after speaking candidly about having “mental blocks” in the gym and her decision to withdraw from competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, citing mental health concerns.

“Everything that happened, it’s a trauma response,” she says.

Biles, 27, also discusses her life with husband Jonathan Owens and her “long journey” to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“We are all the authors of our own journeys, and I am in a place in my life where I’m comfortable with who I am and what I’ve been through as an athlete, but most of all, as a person,” Biles says in a statement provided by Netflix. “Gymnastics is what I do but it’s not who I am, and I’m excited for people to see another side of me outside of competition.”

According to the Olympics website, Biles is “the most decorated gymnast in history.” Over the years, she’s won a total of seven Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals. In 2022, President Joe Biden awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

The docuseries on her life is produced by Religion of Sports in association with the Olympic Channel, and directed by Katie Walsh.

“While her athletic abilities are unmatched, it’s the human component to her story that I’m proud to share alongside the remarkable team at Religion of Sports,” Walsh shares in a statement.

Executive Producers include Gotham Chopra, Ameeth Sankaran, Giselle Parets, Janey Miller, JT Taylor and Yiannis Exarchos.

Simone Biles: Rising premieres July 17 ahead of the Paris games. Per Netflix, the series will stream in four, 45-minute episodes.

The 2024 Summer Olympics take place from July 26 to Aug. 11.
