“I’m going to fix this family,” Javier Bardem’s character, José Menendez, says in a preview of Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
Netflix released the first official trailer on Tuesday, on Aug. 27.
The upcoming series is based on the lives of Menendez brothers Lyle and Erik, who shot and killed their wealthy parents José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez on Aug. 20, 1989, in Beverly Hills.
The trailer opens with the four family members sitting for a portrait, but in reality there is something sinister between them.

Kitty (played by Chloë Sevigny) tells José, “I need to know what’s going on with you and the boys.”
She then promises that she “won’t tell anyone” if José opens up to her.
The trailer ends with the two brothers, played by Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch, embracing in the dark as a gunshot rings out.
From the video, it looks like the limited series will address the brothers’ claims that they murdered their parents because of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse they suffered at the hands of the couple.
While Lyle and Erik made those claims, the prosecution argued that they murdered their parents to inherit the family fortune. Currently, the brothers are serving life sentences in California without the possibility of parole.
Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan are executive producers and writers on the series, while Brennan is one of six directors attached to the project.
The cast also includes Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, Vicki Lawrence, Charlie Hall, and Dallas Roberts.
The series is the latest project from Murphy and Brennan’s true-crime anthology series.
The pair’s previous Netflix series, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, proved to be highly successful for the streamer and won an Emmy Award.
The upcoming series is based on the Menendez brothers, Lyle and Erik, who shot and killed their wealthy parents, Jose and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez on Aug. 20, 1989, in Beverly Hills.
