“You don’t know what kind of thoughts I have. It’s like a demon,” actor Josh Rivera says in the first trailer for American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez.
The upcoming series looks at the rise and fall of Hernandez, including his violent past, murder conviction, and death by suicide.
FX released the trailer on Wednesday, Aug. 14, for the limited series about former NFL player and convicted killer Aaron Hernandez.
Rivera, who is known to fans for his roles in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and West Side Story, leads the cast as the infamous New England Patriots tight end.

White Lotus star Patrick Schwarzenegger is set to star as Tim Tebow in the limited series. Tebow was Hernandez’s teammate when the two played football at the University of Florida.
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez is based on the Boston Globe and Wondery’s podcast titled Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.
Hernandez’s story is the first for the American Sports Story anthology franchise. It joins FX veteran and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy’s other popular brands — American Horror Stories and American Crime Story.
Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy from Wondery and The Boston Globe’s Linda Pizutti Henry and Ira Napoliello are attached as executive producers. Murphy also serves as an executive producer.
Stu Zicherman developed the series.
In 2013, Hernandez was arrested for the murder of his friend Odin Lloyd, and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
While in prison on April 19, 2017, Hernandez took his life at age 27.
He was previously the subject of a Netflix docuseries and extensive news coverage.
The first two episodes of American Sports: Story: Aaron Hernandez premiere Sept. 17 on FX and stream on Hulu.
