Carey did not share any details regarding either cause of death.

The Grammy-winning singer at times has had a strained relationship with her mom.

Carey wrote about their relationship in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, noting how it’s a “complicated love” that tethers her heart to her mother’s.

Though their relationship wasn’t always sour. In 2010, Carey and  Patricia came together to perform a duet of “O Come, All Ye Faithful” for the ABC Christmas special, Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You.

It’s also no secret that Carey had a strained relationship with her sister, resulting in Alison suing the singer over her comments in the 2020 memoir.

The “Honey” performer alleged that Alison had abused her as a child by burning her with boiling tea and drugging her when she was 12.

A year after the book was released, Alison sued Carey  for $1.25 million over the allegations, calling it “unnecessary public humiliation.”

Carey’s father, Alfred Roy Carey, passed away in 2002. She has an estranged older brother named Morgan who is still living.
