Mariah Carey is dealing with unimaginable pain.
The superstar singer revealed that both her mother, Patricia Carey, and her older sister, Alison passed away on the same day over the weekend.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” Carey said in a statement to the New York Post.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” she continued. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Carey did not share any details regarding either cause of death.
The Grammy-winning singer at times has had a strained relationship with her mom.
Carey wrote about their relationship in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, noting how it’s a “complicated love” that tethers her heart to her mother’s.
Though their relationship wasn’t always sour. In 2010, Carey and Patricia came together to perform a duet of “O Come, All Ye Faithful” for the ABC Christmas special, Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You.
It’s also no secret that Carey had a strained relationship with her sister, resulting in Alison suing the singer over her comments in the 2020 memoir.
The “Honey” performer alleged that Alison had abused her as a child by burning her with boiling tea and drugging her when she was 12.
A year after the book was released, Alison sued Carey for $1.25 million over the allegations, calling it “unnecessary public humiliation.”
Carey’s father, Alfred Roy Carey, passed away in 2002. She has an estranged older brother named Morgan who is still living.
