Lifetime has announced the harrowing stalker story, He Slid Into Her DMs for its fall “Ripped from the Headlines” movie slate.

Inspired by true events, the film follows 17-year-old social media influencer Berni (Stella Gregg), who has it all — she’s popular, dating the basketball team’s captain, and will be going to NYU in the fall.

But in reality, her boyfriend Zak (Kane Parks) breaks up with her over being online all of the time, her best friend betrays her behind her back, and her influencer career seems to be slowing down.

Part of the reason behind Berni’s influencer career is to help her single mother, Leah (According to Jim, Melrose Place star Courtney Thorne-Smith).

But things turn deadly when Berni meets Mason online and sends him photos. She blocks him, but that doesn’t help. One day, Mason shows up at her doorstep, causing her mother to make a tragic decision, leaving Berni’s public image and world forever shattered.

This film marks the writer and director of the award-winning short film, And You Are? and Why Women Kill, Alicia Coppola’s first feature film.

Co-written by Erica Lane, Christina Kelly Holmes, and Lydia Genner, the drama explores the tragic consequences of how online and social media fame can fuel real-world violence, Lifetime said in a recent press release.

The film is produced by Cartel Pictures. Stan Spry and Eric Woods are the executive producers.

He Slid Into Her DMs premieres Saturday, Sept. 28 at 8p/7c on Lifetime.
