Kadeem Hardison Lands Role in Amazon Graphic Novel Series ‘Criminal’

A Different World star Kadeem Hardison has been cast in the upcoming Prime Video graphic novel series Criminal.

The actor will play a character named “Gnarly,” Deadline reported Wednesday, May 29.

“Gnarly” picked up his nickname as a boxer in the 1970s. He walks with a limp yet continues to command respect, even as he grows older.

Oscar-nominated actor Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water) and Adria Arjona (Father of the Bride) have also joined the cast.

Prime Video ordered Criminal to series in January. It’s described as an interlocking universe of crime stories based on the award-winning graphic novel series of the same name created by Ed Brubaker and illustrated by Sean Phillips.

The television adaptation is executive produced by Brubaker, Phillips, Jordan Harper, Sarah Carbiener, and Phillip Barnett. Legendary Television will also serve as an executive producer. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

Hardison is best known to fans for playing “Dwayne Wayne” on A Different World.

The NBC comedy series about life at a fictional HBCU ran for six seasons between 1987 and 1993. The cast also included Lisa Bonet, Jasmine Guy, Dawnn Lewis, Darryl M. Bell, Charnele Brown, Cree Summer, Glynn Turman, Ajai Sanders, Karen Malina White and Marisa Tomei.

Hardison also had roles on Girlfriends, Everybody Hates Chris, Grown-ish, and the films White Men Can’t Jump, and Renaissance Man, just to name a few of his credits.

The actor is represented by Global Artists Agency and Untitled Entertainment.
