The true-crime scripted drama premiered on Sept. 21, and it’s already made the Netflix Top 10 chart of most popular English-language shows of all time.
The streaming service ranks shows by hours watched, and the 10-episode limited series is now in ninth place with 496.05 million hours viewed, TheWrap reported Tuesday.

The controversial series comes from creators and executive producers Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan.
The main cast includes Evan Peters, Richard Jenkins, Molly Ringwald, Michael Learned, and Niecy Nash.
The series tells the horrifying story of Dahmer’s crimes and the systemic failures that allowed him to continue killing for over a decade. Between 1978 and 1991, he murdered and dismembered 17 men and boys, and many of his victims were men of color. Dahmer was eventually convicted, and later beaten to death in prison by a fellow inmate.

The series on his life has faced controversy since the trailer dropped last month.
The family of one of Dahmer’s victims issued a statement on Twitter saying they were “pissed” about the series because it’s “retraumatizing.”
I’m not telling anyone what to watch, I know true crime media is huge rn, but if you’re actually curious about the victims, my family (the Isbell’s) are pissed about this show. It’s retraumatizing over and over again, and for what? How many movies/shows/documentaries do we need? https://t.co/CRQjXWAvjx

Netflix also faced backlash on social media from viewers for labeling the series with an LGBTQ tag. Critics called the decision “pretty gross” and “wrong,” as reported by the Los Angeles Times. In response, Netflix quietly removed the label.
However, Los Angeles-based LGBTQ activist, political strategist and social media commentator, Jasmyne Cannick, disagreed with the decision to remove the tag.
“Jeffrey Dahmer was a white, gay man who murdered lots of Black men. Deal with it. Deal with it in the same way that the families of his victims had to,” Cannick wrote in a Medium post. “The white LGBTQ community doesn’t get to disassociate itself from one of its own just because they’re worried about the impact on its image, and the fact that Netflix acquiesced is a slap in the face to the Black community — specifically the Black LGBTQ community.”
Despite the criticism, the Dahmer series remains popular.
