HBO Renews ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ for Season 3

More laughs are in store for fans of A Black Lady Sketch Show after HBO renewed the comedy series for a third season.

Series creator Robin Thede will once again be at the helm as showrunner, executive producer, writer and star.

“Making A Black Lady Sketch Show is a dream come true and I’m honored to continue our incredible series and wonderful partnership with HBO, Issa Rae, JAX Media and our entire producing team,” Thede said in a statement released by HBO on Monday. “I can’t wait to push the show even further in season 3 and to keep delivering the laugh out loud content our audience loves to see!”

“I see this show as a budding comedy institution, where Black women can play fully realized, non-stereotypical characters and I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue to create that space for today’s premiere comedians,” she continued.

Thede also posted about the season 3 renewal on Twitter after the news was made public, tweeting: “THE TILAPIAS ARE GONNA BE ALRIGHT!!! Season 3, let’s gooooooo!!! #ABLSS”

The show follows a core cast of Black women living relatable, hilarious experiences in a magical reality that subverts traditional expectations. Past celebrity guests on the series have included Angela Bassett, David Alan Grier, Laverne Cox, Tia Mowry, Lena Waithe and others.

Alongside Thede, additional executive producers include Issa Rae for HOORAE; Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry for 3 Arts Entertainment; Tony Hernandez, Brooke Posch for JAX Media; as well as head writer/co-executive producer, Lauren Ashley Smith. Producers for A Black Lady Sketch Show include Deniese Davis and Montrel McKay for HOORAE; and producer John Skidmore for JAX Media.

The season 2 finale of the Emmy-nominated sketch comedy show will air on Friday, May 28. Previous episodes are currently available to stream on HBO Max
