‘Sex and the City’ Reboot Adds Sara Ramírez as Non-Binary Character

Sara Ramírez

Sara Ramírez is joining the cast of HBO Max’s upcoming Sex and the City reboot titled And Just Like That...
The former Grey’s Anatomy star will play Che Diaz, “a non-binary, queer, stand-up comedian that hosts a podcast on which Carrie Bradshaw is regularly featured,” according to a press release from the streaming service.

Che uses the pronouns they/their in the reboot, and is also known for their outrageous sense of humor and progressive views in regards to gender roles.
“Everyone at And Just Like That… is beyond thrilled that a dynamically talented actor such as Sara Ramírez has joined the Sex and the City family. Sara is a one-of-a-kind talent, equally at home with comedy and drama – and we feel excited and inspired to create this new character for the show,” the show’s executive producer Michael Patrick King said.
As previously reported, the 10-episode production is making an effort to diversify Carrie’s original all-white circle of friends.
For the reboot, the show will include three new women of color. Ramírez is the first new cast member brought in to join original series regulars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. SATC alum Kim Cattrall (Samantha) will not be returning to the show, after she had a falling out with series star and executive producer, Parker.
And Just Like That… will be going into production this summer and is expected to air either this fall or early 2022.
