Hollywood legend Billy Dee Williams has joined the cast of HBO’s And Just Like That… in its second season.
Williams will play the father of Nicole Ari Parker’s character Lisa Todd Wexley, who is a documentarian, philanthropist, art collector, and socialite from the Upper East Side.
The casting news was revealed by Williams himself on Instagram, when he posted a photo alongside Parker and tagged the Max series in his caption.
“On set back at work with @nicoleariparker,” he wrote. “BIG surprises next season!”
Now, Williams’ role has officially been confirmed by Parker during a recent press junket interview with Extra, promoting the second season of the Sex and the City spinoff series.
And Just Like That… brings audiences back to the familiar world of Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw and her close-knit circle of friends. The original show, inspired by Candace Bushnell’s 1997 book, explored the romantic lives of four women in New York City: Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte.
Running for six seasons from 1998 to 2004, the original series earned critical acclaim, including four Emmy Awards, notably Outstanding Comedy Series in 2001.
And Just Like That… premiered in December 2021. The first season of the reboot received a mixed reception among devoted fans of the original show, but its premiere achieved the highest ratings debut for any HBO series, as reported by Deadline.
HBO announced the reboot back in January 2021, marking the return of the main cast members Sara Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, with the exception of Kim Cattrall, who left her role as Samantha.
Earlier this month Cattrall confirmed she would return for a brief cameo as Samantha for the second season of the Sex and the City reboot. Joining her on the series will be John Corbett, who is returning to reprise his role as Aidan Shaw.
And Just Like That… premieres Thursday, June 22 on Max with two back-to-back episodes. Following episodes will air weekly on Thursdays.
