A new teaser trailer for Aftershock, an upcoming limited series about the police killing of Sean Bell, was released this week.
From Imani Entertainment Group and producer Manny Halley, the three-part series is based on the true story of the 23-year-old groom who was killed by the NYPD just hours before his wedding.
Officers fatally shot Bell on the morning of Nov. 25, 2006, as he left his bachelor party at a Queens strip club.
“These cops killed Sean,” Rayven Ferrell says as Nicole P. Bell, the real-life fiancée of Sean Bell, in the teaser trailer.
The cast also includes Bentley Green (Bel-Air) as Sean Bell. The cast also includes Richard T. Jones (Why Did I Get Married?) and Richard Lawson (Beauty in Black).

Undercover officers were investigating the facility over allegations that the owners were involved in an illegal prostitution ring. Police fired 50 bullets into Sean’s car, killing him and severely wounding two of his friends.
The men were all unarmed, it was later determined. The officers went to trial but were found not guilty, leaving Bell’s family frustrated.
Aftershock comes just four years after TruVision Films announced its biopic titled 50 Shots, which was going to star former The Chi actor Jason Mitchell. Though, according to IMDb, the film is still in production.
In 2020, Urban Hollywood 411 interviewed Sean Bell’s father, William Bell, about his son’s death and the trial that followed.
“We didn’t get justice. Not at all,” Bell said. “Nothing happened behind that. Nothing. So, where’s the law there? That’s what I’m saying. The law is so, so, so different for Black individuals. It’s pitiful. I didn’t believe it until I saw it myself in court.”
For Aftershock, Nicole P. Bell collaborated with producers.
“This project aims to retell my story of finding strength and fighting for accountability after the tragic loss of my husband-to-be and the father of my children,” Nicole said in a statement. “This is a collective experience shared by countless survivors—those who have lost loved ones to senseless violence and those who have fought tirelessly for accountability and civil reform.”
The series was written by Cas Sigers Beedles and directed by Alesia “Z” Glidewell. A release date has yet to be announced.
