Viola Davis, Billy Porter, Sandra Oh Pick Up Emmy Nominations

The nominations were announced on July 16, for the 71st Emmy Awards, with Sandra Oh, Viola Davis and Billy Porter among the nominees.

Killing Eve star Oh landed her second consecutive lead actress in a drama series nod for playing Eve Polastri on the BBC America series. She also picked up a nomination for guest actress in a comedy series for hosting Saturday Night Live.

Last year, Oh made history as the first woman of Asian descent to receive a nomination in the lead actress drama category.

In 2015, Davis became the first woman of color to win an Emmy in that category for her role in How to Get Away with Murder. Davis picked up another nomination in the category and will compete against Oh, Emilia Clarke of Games of Thrones, Robin Wright of House of Cards, Jodie Comer of Killing Eve, Laura Linney of Ozark and Mandy Moore of This Is Us.

In the lead actor in a drama series category, Pose star Porter was nominated along with Bob Odenkirk of Better Call Saul, Kit Harington of Games of Thrones, Jason Bateman of Ozark, Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia of This Is Us.

In terms of shows, Game of Thrones led with 32 Nominations. It was followed by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with 20 nods. Ava DuVernay’s limited Netflix series When They See Us received 16 nods.

The nominations were announced by Ken Jeong and D’Arcy Carden at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Wolf Theatre in North Hollywood.

The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards will take place at  the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 22, 2019. The show will air live at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT on Fox.
