The War With Grandpa sent Tenet packing from the top spot at the weekend box office.
The family comedy opened in the No. 1 position, after taking in an estimated $3.6 million in North American theaters, according to Comscore.
With 48 percent of theaters in the U.S. and Canada now open amid the COVID-19 pandemic, The War With Grandpa played in 2,250 locations.

The film centers on a newly widowed grandfather who moves in with his daughter’s family and takes over his grandson’s bedroom, prompting the little boy to declare war on grandpa. The film stars Robert De Niro, with Uma Thurman, Christopher Walken, Cheech Marin, Oakes Fegley and Jane Seymour rounding out the main cast.
As previously reported, New Jersey teen Tre Peart produced and helped cast the film, after falling in love with the book that it’s based on.
Elsewhere at the box office, Tenet slipped to second place after seven weeks. The time-bending thriller took in $2.1 million, bringing its worldwide total to $323 million.
A re-release of the 1993 comedy Hocus Pocus came in third place with $1.1 million.
The New Mutants rang up $685,000 in its seventh weekend, for a fourth place finish and a domestic total of $21.9 million.
Unhinged rounded out the top five with $660,000 in its ninth weekend for a domestic total of $19.3 million.
