They say a mother will do anything for her children, and Andra Day does just that as she battles demons to protect her family in the trailer for The Deliverance.

Netflix released the trailer for the star-studded film on Tuesday, July 16.

The preview shows Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, holding a Bible and performing an exorcism as a frightened Day looks on. “Father, cleanse and sanctify us for this deliverance,” Ellis-Taylor says before we hear a sinister growl.

The intensity heightens as a preacher declares, “If you believe, you shall be saved.” Things then take a turn for everyone, including Glenn Close and Mo’Nique.

Day leads the cast as Ebony, a single mother striving to give her family a fresh start by moving into a new home. However, strange occurrences prompt an investigation by a social worker (played by Mo’Nique) from Child Protective Services, as previously reported.

“Ebony soon finds herself locked in a battle for her life and the souls of her children,” according to the official description.

The cast also includes Anthony B. Jenkins, Miss Lawrence, Demi Singleton, Tasha Smith, Omar Epps, and Caleb McLaughlin.

The exorcism-themed thriller is produced and directed by Lee Daniels (The Butler, Precious) and written by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan) and Elijah Bynum (Magazine Dreams).

The film is inspired by the true story of the “Demon House” case in Gary, Indiana, where a woman named Latoya Ammons said she and her three children were possessed by demons leading to a case involving the Gary Police Department and the Department of Child Services.

According to Deadline, Netflix won a bidding war for the rights to the film  in a deal worth more than $65 million.

The Deliverance arrives in select theaters on Aug. 16 and begins streaming Aug. 30 on Netflix.
