Swan Song, a new drama about family, science, and sacrifice, will debut in theaters and on Apple TV+ this December, Apple recently announced.
The film stars two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali as Cameron, a loving husband and father diagnosed with a terminal disease, Apple said in a press release.
Eight-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close plays a doctor, who offers Cameron a controversial alternative to replace himself with a clone to prevent his family’s grief. The additional cast includes Ali’s Moonlight co-star Naomie Harris, Awkwafina and Adam Beach.

Here is the official description: “Set in the near future, Swan Song is a powerful, emotional journey told through the eyes of Cameron (Mahershala Ali), a loving husband and father diagnosed with a terminal illness who is presented with an alternative solution by his doctor (Glenn Close) to shield his family from grief. As Cam grapples with whether or not to alter his family’s fate, he learns more about life and love than he ever imagined. Swan Song explores how far we will go, and how much we’re willing to sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people we love.”
The Apple Original Films release was directed and written by Benjamin Cleary, best known for his short film, Stutterer, which won the Academy Award for best live action short. Swan Song is Cleary’s first full length feature.
The film is produced by Anonymous Content and Concordia Studio. Producers are Adam Shulman and Jacob Perlin on behalf of Anonymous Content; Jonathan King on behalf of Concordia Studio; Rebecca Bourke; Mahershala Ali and Mimi Valdés through Know Wonder.
After getting delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the drama is now ready for a holiday release in time for awards season.
Swan Song arrives in theaters and on Apple TV+ on Dec. 17, 2021.
