Ayo Edebiri hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend and referenced past comments she made about Jennifer Lopez’s singing.
The Bear actress made her SNL hosting debut on the Feb. 3 episode of the NBC sketch series alongside Lopez, who served as musical gest.
After NBC announced Edebiri, a 28-year-old Emmy and Golden Globe winner, would host the show, her past comments saying Lopez’s “whole career is one long scam” resurfaced online.
In an SNL sketch called “Why’d You Say It?,” Edebiri acknowledged the controversy percolating online.

The bit started with Kenan Thompson telling the contestants the rules — “We show you a comment you left on Instagram and ask you the simple question, ‘Why’d you say it?'”
Toward the end of the sketch, Edebiri decided to confess.
“OK, OK, we get it. It’s wrong to leave mean comments or post comments just for clout or run your mouth on a podcast and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid,” she said. “But I think I speak for everyone when I say from now on, we’re going to be a lot more thoughtful about what we post online!”
The actress and comedian’s near-apology came after she bashed Lopez on a 2020 episode of the “Scam Goddess” podcast dedicated to fraud. At the time, Edebiri told host Laci Mosley she thought it was ridiculous that J.Lo was booked to perform in the Super Bowl halftime show.
“Today, I was actually thinking about one of my favorite scams of all time,” Edebiri said. “Her whole career is one long scam.”
Mosley chimed in by saying, “J.Lo can’t sing,” yet doesn’t even realize it.
“That’s the thing… She thinks she’s on multiple tracks but it’s not her!” Edebiri said, suggesting the “I’m Real” singer used ghost-singers on “most” of her songs. “A lot of the write-ups of the songs will be like, ‘J. Lo didn’t have time to make it to the studio,’ like, ‘J. Lo was busy,’ It’s like, ‘Doing what?’ Not singing, obviously!”
The actress and comedian has apparently had a change of heart. In an SNL promo, Edebiri said she’s now a fan of “everything” Lopez does.
