Fans of the Power crime series know how Kanan’s story ends — and now they get to see how it all began.
Starz has dropped the first trailer for Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which is executive produced by Courtney Kemp and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
With ‘90s style photographs and A Tribe Called Quest’s “Excursions” playing in the background, the 35-second video maps out the life and interactions Kanan had before his death.

“This is my story. This is a Southside, Jamaica Queens story,” his voice says in the clip.
In the original series, Kanan (played by Jackson) is a drug dealer and eventual rival of the two main characters James “Ghost” St. Patrick Sr and Thomas “Tommy” Egan.
This time around, the younger version of Kanan will be played by Mekai Curtis (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day).
Joining him in the cast are Patina Miller (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay), Omar Epps (Love & Basketball), London Brown (Ballers), Malcolm Mays (Rebel), Shanley Caswell (The Conjuring), Lovie Simone (Greenleaf), Toby Sandeman (She’s Gotta Have It), Joey Bada$$ (Mr. Robot) and Hailey Kilgore (The Village).
Power Book III: Raising Kanan premieres in summer 2021. The prequel is the second spin-off series after Power Book II: Ghost.
