Oprah and ‘The Color Purple’ Cast React to First Trailer for Remake

Oprah Winfrey and the cast of the upcoming movie musical, The Color Purple, had an unforgettable moment when they gathered for a photoshoot with Essence.

Oprah, who serves as executive producer of the film, shared the first trailer with the cast before its official release on Monday afternoon.

Dressed in a white bathrobe, like the rest of the ladies, Oprah posted the moment on TikTok, and told the cast she wanted them to watch the trailer before everyone else.

“The world is about to see it, and I think you should see it before the world sees it,” Oprah said before hitting play.

The anticipation was palpable while H.E.R., Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, and Fantasia Barrino waited for the big reveal.

As the trailer played, they were amazed, shocked, and bursting with joy, laughing and cheering each other on.

Oprah grabbed Fantasia’s hand during her scene and later held Taraji’s hand during hers.

“Oh my God, this is going to be so amazing,” Henson said toward the end of the trailer.

H.E.R. added, “Oh my gosh. I could cry.”

Directed by Blitz Bazawule, known for his work on “Black is King,” the film has a star-studded also includes Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Halle Bailey, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.

This adaptation of The Color Purple marks Oprah’s collaboration with Steven Spielberg once again, as they bring the beloved Tony award-winning musical to the big screen as a movie musical.

The Color Purple arrives in theaters on Dec. 25, 2023.
