Keke Palmer and SZA will continue to navigate life together on-screen in a sequel to their buddy comedy One of Them Days.
A follow-up film is in early development at TriStar Pictures, Variety reported Wednesday, June 4. According to the outlet, Palmer and SZA are expected to return as Alyssa and Dreux, along with the film’s original creative team.
Produced by Issa Rae, the comedy followed two struggling friends trying to come up with rent money before they’re evicted from their run-down Los Angeles apartment.

The story ended with Alyssa (SZA) breaking up with her boyfriend and reconnecting with Dreux (Palmer), while it showed Dreux as a successful franchise manager and Alyssa as a well-known painter, living together again in a refurbished apartment.
It’s unclear where the sequel will pick up.
The film was produced on a $14 million budget and grossed $50 million worldwide. After its box office run, it streamed on Netflix, where it spent three weeks in the Top 10.
The comedy was well received by critics and earned a 94 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A-” CinemaScore from audiences in exit polling.
This marked SZA’s feature film acting debut and drew comparisons to classic buddy comedies like Friday, starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker.
The film was directed by Lawrence Lamont from a script written by Syreeta Singleton. In addition to Issa Rae, producers include Deniese Davis, Sara Rastogi, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks.
Keke Palmer, Sharon Palmer, Jeff Valeri, and Charles D. King were all executive producers.
The film originated from Sony Pictures’ CoCre lab. Singleton’s script, originally titled The Jungles after the South L.A. neighborhood where the story is set, spent nearly seven years in development before making it to the big screen, according to Variety.
Prior to working together on the comedy, Palmer and SZA previously appeared together on a December 2022 episode of Saturday Night Live.
