The Montgomery Smooth Jazz Festival is teaming up with the South LA Community Foundation to raise money for victims of the Los Angeles wildfires.

The festival takes place this weekend, from March 14th-March 15th, at the Riverfront Amphitheater in Montgomery, Alabama. A portion of the proceeds will go toward LA fire relief efforts, organizers said in a press release on March 12.

The South LA Community Foundation is a nonprofit focused on equity, sustainability, and economic empowerment in historically marginalized communities.

Since the wildfires broke out in January, the organization says it has helped hundreds of families affected by the Eaton Fire, which destroyed parts of the historically Black neighborhood of Altadena.

The Eaton fire claimed 17 lives. Another person was killed in the Pacific Palisades fire — raising the death toll from the wildfires to 18, according to local news station Fox 11.

The two fires broke out during a raging wind storm on Jan. 7. Within days, the fires destroyed thousands of structures and burned nearly 40,000 acres in the Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena and Pasadena.

Local officials estimate rebuilding efforts will cost hundreds of billions of dollars.

Contributions have been pouring in from across the country, and the Montgomery Smooth Jazz Festival is among the latest groups to announce plans to help.

This year’s festival lineup includes Evelyn “Champagne” King, Con Funk Shun, Boney James, Leela James, and Day26.
