Lifetime has announced the new true crime movie Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowan Story for 2025.
Paige Hurd (Power Book II: Ghost) stars as Laura Cowan, a woman struggling to make ends meet after her husband Shabazz is arrested. A family friend, Musa offers to move Laura and her children into his home, which she agrees to and thinks is a blessing, according to the official description.
However, the blessing is actually a nightmare for the family as they endure extensive mental and physical abuse while held captive in a garage.

Laura is repeatedly sexually assaulted by Musa and she later finds out she’s not the only person he has been abusing.
Despite the “dark conditions surrounding her, Laura manages to keep her faith and documents her ordeal until she sneaks a note to the outside world, leading authorities to her eventual rescue.”
Stephen Bishop and Brad James also star.
Manu Boyer directs from a script written by Avery O. Williams. The producers are Poke Prod.
The real-life Laura Cowan, who is now an abuse advocate, serves as a co-producer of the film. Executive producers include Sean Dwyer and Elizabeth Cullen.
Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowan Story premiere, on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
As part of its “Ripped from the Headlines” slate, Lifetime has also greenlit Terror Comes Knocking: The Marcela Borges Story.
Dascha Polanco stars as Marcela Borges, who must keep her family safe after armed robbers attack them in their home.
The movie will premiere a week earlier than Girl in the Garage on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025.
