Lee Daniels says his efforts to revive recently canceled Fox series Star have ended without success.

Daniels announced on Instagram Tuesday that he was “fighting” to save the show, and would have news later this week on whether he managed to find a new home for the music drama.

The news came Thursday evening and it wasn’t good.

“I got some bad news. It ain’t happening,” he said in a new video posted on Instagram. “I tried my best guys.”

He captioned the clip: “Thank you guys for loving Star! I’m at a loss for words to describe my sadness. So I’m gunna just say THANKS ….to my incredible cast and crew and FANS!!!! And a shout out to #foxtv for letting us into your homes every Wednesday.”

Daniels co-created the series with Tom Donaghy. It followed the story of three talented singers trying to make it in the music business.

Star premiered in 2016, and starred Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, Brittany O’Grady, Quincy Brown, Queen Latifah, Amiyah Scott and Brandy Norwood. Lance Gross and Benjamin Bratt also had roles on the show.

Fox canceled the series earlier this month after three seasons. The final episode aired on Wednesday, May 8.

Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier told reporters the decision to cancel Star was tied to Empire, adding that the network wanted to focus more attention on the hip-hop drama for its sixth and final season.
