Kandi Burruss sits down for a wide-ranging interview on the next episode of TV One’s Uncensored.

During the conversation, the singer, songwriter, reality star, and entrepreneur discusses her journey with Xscape and her relationship with music producer Jermaine Dupri, who signed the group to his So So Def label in the 1990s.

In the interview, Kandi says there’s no truth to rumors that she became intimate with Dupri in order to secure a record deal. She said Xscape was already established when the two “connected.”

“The situation with Jermaine and I, honestly, after the second album drops, when we were doing the ‘Do You Want to’ and ‘Who Can I Run To’ video — it was a double video — that’s when we first connected,” she explained.

Kandi said she and Dupri kept the relationship private.

“You couldn’t tell anything by sitting in a room with us that we had ever [done] anything,” she said. “It wasn’t a public relationship, it was very much so, private.”

Still, she said she didn’t hide it from the rest of the quartet, which included Tamika Scott, LaTocha Scott and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle.

“Tiny and Tamika Scott, we used to share a lot of secrets with each other, the three of us. They knew from the beginning, they always knew,” Kandi said. “Tamika did not tell her sister, but she knew.”

She went on to say LaTocha learned about the relationship after Kandi’s personal diary was stolen while the group was on tour, suggesting LaTocha or someone close to her “got a hold of it.”

Kandi previously discussed her relationship with Dupri last year on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast. At the time, she said there was “no favoritism” in Xscape as a result of the relationship.

You can hear more of Kandi’s comments about Xscape when her episode of Uncensored airs Sunday, July 7 at 9/8c on TV One.
