Joy Reid called out Fox News for “downplaying” the Jan. 6th insurrection on-air, while behind the scenes some of its hosts tried to convince then-President Donald Trump to stop the violence.
The host of MSNBC’s The ReidOut started out her comments Tuesday night by saying, “Fox News, and particularly a number of their on-air hosts, acted as his unofficial advisors, and time and again tried to play defense for the orange autocrat president.”
She went on to talk about text messages Fox News host Laura Ingraham sent to Mark Meadows, the last chief of staff for Trump, urging the president to stop the insurrection.
Reid also called out Sean Hannity and the anchor’s efforts to blame antifa for the storming of the U.S. Capitol.

“No matter how they try to downplay or blame ‘antifa’ or the left, or provocateurs or whatever, their texts tell the truth. Only Donald Trump could call off the insurrectionists because they were his insurrectionists,” she said.
“He is the one who called on those gullible, thugged-out MAGA fans to bring the fight to the Capitol that day, to try to overthrow a legitimate election. Period.”
On Tuesday night, the House voted to recommend holding Meadows in criminal contempt of Congress for not cooperating with its investigation into the events of Jan. 6.T
The New York Times reports Meadows would be the first former member of Congress to be held in contempt. Watch the full video from Reid’s segment below:
