Jamie Foxx is one step closer to bringing his new stand-up special to audiences.
A year and a half after a medical emergency nearly took his life, the actor and comedian taped his new Netflix special detailing the ordeal, over the weekend in Atlanta.
Foxx and his production team celebrated backstage with Gayle King. The CBS Mornings anchor briefly interviewed Foxx and posted the video on Instagram.

Asked how he felt after recording three shows in Atlanta, the Oscar-winning performer said he was initially worried about discussing his health scare on stage.
“It was an excruciating time, to be able to open those wounds every single day,” Foxx replied. “It was excruciating because the worry is what gets you. Yeah, we’ve got a great show in the room, but we don’t know what they may laugh or what they may not laugh at.”
He added, “Any comedian will tell you — that’s the thing. The worry is the thing. Usually, when you do a stand-up special, you go out for a year and work every nook and cranny, then you tape it. You don’t just show up in Atlanta and turn the camera on.”
Foxx previously announced on social media he would be taping the special titled What Had Happened Was: An Evening With Jamie Foxx over three nights in October.
The multi-hyphenate made headlines in April 2023, when he was hospitalized in Georgia while filming the Netflix movie Back in Action.
The actor and his family have remained tight-lipped about why he was hospitalized, and later transferred to a physical rehabilitation center specializing in stroke recovery in Chicago.
Foxx first announced he was going to talk about his health scare in a one-man show, back in March 2024, while he was at the 7th annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards luncheon.
At the time, the Ray star said he’s happy to just be alive after the health crisis left him in “dire straits.”
The singer and actor eventually shared more details with a group of fans, noting that he experienced a bad headache and was then “gone for 20 days.”
A premiere date for his stand-up special will be announced later.
