Jamie Foxx says he’s planning to reveal what caused his mystery illness — in an upcoming standup special.

Foxx took the stage at the Los Angeles Athletic Club in downtown L.A. on Sunday, March 3, at the 7th annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards luncheon, presented by the African American Film Critics Association.

Nia Long, Jurnee Smollett, and Courtney B. Vance presented Foxx and his producing partner Datari Turner with the Producers Award, for bringing the 2023 films They Cloned Tyrone, Story Ave, and The Burial to the screen.

Urban Hollywood 411 was at the event, as Foxx commanded the stage during his acceptance speech — telling jokes, doing impressions, and reiterating his recent announcement on Instagram that he plans to return to his stand-up comedy roots.

The Ray star said he’s happy to just be alive after the health crisis left him in “dire straits.”

So what caused the health crisis? Foxx made it sound like he’s going to dish details in an upcoming stand-up special.

“Everybody wants to know what happened and I’m going to tell you what happened, but I gotta do it in my way. I’m going to do it in a funny way, I’m going to be on stage when I tell you, when I go back to the stand-up roots,” Foxx said.

“It will be called ‘What Had Happened Was,'” he said to laughter.

The actor made global headlines in April 2023, when he was hospitalized in Atlanta while filming the Netflix movie Back in Action.

The Oscar-winning star’s oldest daughter, Corinne Foxx, posted a statement on Instagram at the time saying he suffered a “medical complication.”

Foxx and his family have remained tight-lipped about why he was hospitalized, and later transferred to a physical rehabilitation facility specializing in stroke recovery in Chicago.
