Whoopi Goldberg says there’s one key reason she remains on The View — the paycheck.
The 70-year-old actress and talk show host made the surprising revelation during an episode of the “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer” podcast posted online Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The EGOT-winning star has taken home multiple Emmys, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award. But she said trophies don’t necessarily pay the bills.
“Every accolade I’ve received, I’m grateful for. But it doesn’t always translate into work,” Goldberg told host Keke Palmer. “It’s nice that I have all those things. But, do I constantly have to say to people, ‘I’d like to work with you?’ Yeah, because I don’t come right up in your mind. I’m not the first one you think of.”
Goldberg suggested if she had more money saved, she might exit The View and the daytime talk show’s grueling schedule.
“Very few of us [actors] are actually making the kind of money you’re reading about,” she said.
“Because if I had that kind of money, and I love my job, I don’t know that I’d still be doing it,” Goldberg added. “But, a girl’s gotta eat, and I never married well, so I still have to support myself.”

The Sister Act star got even more candid and admitted keeping a day job is “All About the Benjamins.”
“The check,” Goldberg said. “I love the check.”
When Palmer pressed her for details on what she makes, she responded, “You would be shocked.”
On Tuesday, Page Six reported Goldberg earns in the “mid-seven-figure range” for the show and is the highest-paid member of the panel.
So far this season, The View is averaging 2.621 million viewers per episode, ABC announced in June. The program ranks No. 1 among daytime network talk shows and news programs in both households and total viewers, ahead of NBC’s Today Third Hour, Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, and NBC News Daily.
Still, a source told Page Six ABC has been cutting costs and salaries on the show because of the current television climate.
“They keep downsizing and downsizing and downsizing,” the source said.
Despite her comments, Goldberg has no shortage of acting projects lined up. As previously reported, she is set to star in the upcoming Netflix comedy film Women Like Us alongside Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox.
She will also star in Sister Act 3, and has a recurring role on the MGM+ drama series Godfather of Harlem starring Oscar winner Forest Whitaker.
