The new trailer for Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody promises to show viewers “the Whitney you never knew.”

Sony/TriStar Pictures released the trailer on Thursday, which features British actress Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) as Houston.

The video opens with Houston singing at a club in front of an audience that includes legendary record executive Clive Davis (played by Stanley Tucci).

“I might have just heard the greatest voice of her generation,” Davis says in a voiceover.

The cast also includes Ashton Sanders (Moonlight) as Bobby Brown; Tamara Tunie (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) as Cissy Houston; Nafessa Williams (Black Lightning) as Robyn Crawford; and Clarke Peters (The Wire) as John Houston.

The authorized music drama chronicles Houston’s meteoric rise to fame and is being touted as a “no-holds-barred portrait of the complex and multifaceted woman behind the voice” — from New Jersey choir girl to one of the best-selling and most awarded recording artists of all time.

The film is directed by Kasi Lemmons, who previously helmed the 2019 biopic Harriet. The script is written by Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody).

McCarten and Clive Davis are producers alongside Pat Houston, Larry Mestel, Denis O’Sullivan, Jeff Kalligheri, Matt Jackson, Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill, Thad Luckinbill, Matt Salloway and Christina Papagjika.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Dec. 21.
