Ava DuVernay’s romantic drama series Cherish the Day is almost back for season 2 on OWN and it will be steamy.
The new trailer shows a glimpse of Joy Bryant and Henry Simmons as Ellis (Simmons) and Sunday (Bryant), who fell in love in high school and are reunited when their paths cross in New Orleans. Ellis, a former basketball player, is now a single father of two, and Sunday is a vegetarian celebrity chef knocking on the door of fame.
Shaft actor Richard Roundtree and Insecure‘s Terri J. Vaughn also star.
Mandeville “MV” St. James (Roundtree) is the proud, loving, wry-humored former judge and widowed father of Sunday, and Anastasia (Vaughn) is Ellis’ soon-to-be ex-wife and the mother of his children.

Each season of Cherish the Day follows the relationship of one couple. The first season featured Xosha Roquemore and Alano Miller, a couple from different walks of life who met and fell in love in Los Angeles.
The series is produced for OWN by Array Filmworks and Harpo Films in association with Warner Bros. Television.
DuVernay, Paul Garnes, Raynelle Swilling, Teri Schaffer, and Oprah Winfrey serve as executive producers. Swilling, who won the 2020 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (Television) for Cherish the Day, and Schaffer are co-showrunners of season 2.
The first season achieved full gender parity with a production crew of more than 50 percent women, including 18 female department heads, an initiative Ava DuVernay says she will continue.
Season 2 of Cherish the Day premieres Tuesday, Oct 4., at 9 p.m. ET/PT on OWN.
