The upcoming Hulu documentary series Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers will explore the team’s journey to greatness and the off-court power plays.
The streamer released the first trailer Monday, which opens with LeBron James discussing what it means to be a Laker.
“The pressure that’s what really drives me. To wear purple and gold, it’s a different feeling,” James says.

The original 10-part series comes from filmmaker Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer) and Lakers CEO and controlling owner Jeanie Buss.
“My dad, he just wanted to make his mark,” Buss says about her father’s decision to buy the team.
The series includes interviews with Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Derek Fisher, Phil Jackson and more, and revisits the rivalry between Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.
“Relax, I’m still in charge,” O’Neal recalls saying to an ambitious Bryant.
Here’s the official description: “Featuring exclusive access to the Buss Family and probing, revealing interviews with players, coaches, and front office execs, this 10-part documentary series chronicles this extraordinary story from the inside — told only by the people who lived it. When charismatic real estate tycoon Dr. Jerry Buss purchased the Los Angeles Lakers in a wildly risky and complex business deal, nobody could’ve predicted just how much success was to come.”
Executive producers on the series include Fuqua; Jeanie Buss; Haven Entertainment’s Kevin Mann, Michael Mann and Brendan Bragg; Los Angeles Media Fund’s (LAMF) Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman; and longtime Lakers senior executive Linda Rambis. Rounding out the team are Emmy Award-winning editors Jake Pushinsky and executive producer/writer Steven Leckart.
Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers premieres Monday, Aug. 15 with two episodes on Hulu. New episodes will stream weekly.
