Grant Ellis will be the next leading man on The Bachelor, and in turn becomes the ABC franchise’s second Black male lead in its history.
The 30-year-old former professional basketball player and current day trader from New Jersey was announced as the Bachelor on Monday, Aug. 12, following his emotional elimination from The Bachelorette.
The Bachelor also posted an article on Monday evening to help its Bachelor Nation fans get to know Ellis.
“A self-proclaimed mama’s boy, Grant’s infectious smile and unwavering positivity instantly brightens every room he enters,” the article stated.

“He hopes to find a partner who shares his values of loyalty, humor, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures,” the article continued.
Ellis first appeared as a contestant on Bachelorette Jenn Tran’s season but was eliminated before the “hometown dates.”
After the franchise posted the reveal on its Bachelor Nation X account, viewers seemed to have a consensus that Ellis is a fan-favorite pick.
X user @taurusbabe2024 replied to the post: “I’m definitely watching his season, haven’t been keen on Jenn’s season but I’ll definitely watch Grant.”
X user @gabbyhurlbut10 agreed, writing: “LOVE this! Grant is a fantastic choice!”
As previously reported, The Bachelor introduced its first Black lead back in 2021 as 29-year-old commercial real estate broker and community organization founder Matt James began his search for love. James eventually broke things off with his final pick Rachael Kirkconnell amid a racism scandal, but they patched things up and are currently still together.
Kirkconnell’s latest Instagram post with James features them canoodling in a pool in a post uploaded on June 22, 2024.
The Bachelor franchise is currently gearing up for its fall premiere of the first Golden Bachelorette featuring 61-year-old Joan Vassos. The Golden Bachelorette will premiere on ABC Sept. 18.
The premiere date for Ellis’ season of The Bachelor will be announced at a later date by ABC.
