Magnitude 4.4 Earthquake Rattles Los Angeles Area

The Los Angeles Area has been struck by another earthquake.

This time, a temblor measuring 4.4 occurred on Monday, Aug. 12, near Pasadena.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck at 12:20 p.m. PT. 

The epicenter of the temblor was in Highland Park in Los Angeles County, about six miles north east of the city of Los Angeles.

The magnitude was initially reported as 4.6 but later reduced to 4.4.

“There are currently no initial reports of structural damage or injuries,” the Los Angeles Fire Department said in a statement, adding that residents should prepare for aftershocks.

“An update will be provided once LAFD Earthquake Mode is complete. Though no additional earthquake activity is predicted, firefighters ask you to prepare for any aftershock,” the LAFD said.

People on social media reported feeling the shaking in Burbank, Inglewood, and as far away as parts of Orange County and Riverside County.

During a live report by ESPN’s Malika Andrews, the earthquake struck, the NBA Today host shared.

“Definitely a scary moment here in our LA studios. Thank you to our incredible staff and crew who stayed cool throughout! Stay safe, fellow Angelenos,” tweeted Andrews.

Monday’s quake marks the second one in just a few days for Southern California. The previous one on Aug. 6,  measured 5.2 and struck in a small town called Lamont, which is 90 miles north of downtown L.A.
