Chadwick Boseman’s wife delivered an emotional speech Sunday night at the Golden Globes, after her late husband won the award for best actor in a motion picture drama for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
Taylor Simone Ledward immediately started tearing up as she accepted the award on Boseman’s behalf.
“He would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices,” Ledward said. “He would say something beautiful, something inspiring, something that amplifies that little voice inside of all of us.”
She continued by naming others Boseman would have thanked. “I don’t have his words. But we have to take all the moments to celebrate those we love,” she added before thanking the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

At one point, the camera cut to Boseman’s co-star Viola Davis who fought back tears as she listened and held her husband’s arm. Renée Zellweger, who presented the award, was also moved by Ledward’s comments.
Boseman’s posthumous Golden Globe is the latest award bestowed upon the actor, who passed away at age 43 last August after battling colon cancer.
In December, he posthumously won a Best Actor award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) for his role in the Netflix drama.
Earlier this month, the director of the film George C. Wolfe called Boseman an “extraordinary human being” while accepting the late actor’s award for performance of the year during the third annual Critics Choice Association’s “Celebration of Black Cinema.”
