Glenn Close stole the show in The Deliverance.
Fans can’t stop talking about Close’s performance in the Lee Daniels exorcism-themed thriller.
The film premiered Aug. 30 on Netflix, and the actress quickly became a top trending topic on X (formerly Twitter).
Close plays Alberta, the sharp-tongued, wig-wearing, man-chasing mother of lead actress Andra Day’s character Ebony.

Alberta is battling cancer and moves in with single mom Ebony.
The two women frequently clash with each other and with Cynthia (played by Mo’Nique), a Department of Child Services (DCS) social worker assigned to Ebony’s case.
While some fans panned the film, many said Close deserves an award for her performance.
“Glenn Close! We love you girl! You understood the assignment in #TheDeliverance,” one viewer posted on X.
“Just finished the deliverance. Glenn Close was insane,” someone else wrote.
“I don’t know how much they paid #GlennClose to be in the #netflix film #Deliverance but they should have paid her double,” another person chimed in.
One scene that showed Close sewing in hair extensions caught viewers by surprise.
“I know they don’t got Glenn Close in this movie sewing tracks in this ladies hair!” someone commented.
At the film’s red carpet premiere in Los Angeles on Aug. 28, Close said Alberta offered a new challenge.
“I had to enter a culture that I really didn’t know that much about,” she said. “It was one of the best experiences of my career.”
In addition to Close, Day, and Mo’Nique, the cast includes Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Anthony B. Jenkins, Miss Lawrence, Demi Singleton, Tasha Smith, Omar Epps, and Caleb McLaughlin.
The film is inspired by the true story of the “Demon House” case in Gary, Indiana, where a woman named Latoya Ammons said she and her three children were possessed by demons leading to a case involving the Gary Police Department and the Department of Child Services.
Lee Daniels (The Butler, Precious) produced and directed the film, which was written by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan) and Elijah Bynum (Magazine Dreams).
