Judge Greg Mathis says he’s fighting to save his marriage after his wife of 39 years, Linda Reese Mathis, filed for divorce.
Mathis, 61, broke his silence about the split when he was approached by a TMZ photographer at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday, Aug. 30.
Asked how he was doing, the TV judge responded: “I’m not good. It’s the worst days of my life.”

In 2022, the couple appeared together with their four adult children and grandchildren on the E! reality series, Mathis Family Matters.
Reese filed the divorce documents on Aug. 22, 2024, according to E! News. She listed the date of separation as July 17, and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
In his airport interview, Mathis admitted he rarely made his wife a priority.
“You see I’m flying out, as I have for 25 years. My wife has been third, [after] serving the community, taping my show, having fun with my friends,” he explained.
Mathis offered words of wisdom to other men.
“I’m not holding up very well. I will say to other men, maybe I’ll be an example for other men, cautionary tale. Don’t neglect your wife,” he stated.
Mathis insisted the split was not caused by cheating. He also shot down rumors of an out-of-wedlock baby, and other disturbing allegations.
“I just want to eliminate those rumors,” he said. “It’s none of that.”
The Michigan native admitted to the “neglect” of his wife, but said he plans to win her back.
“We’re still in the same house and we’re maintaining a friendship, and I’m trying to get my wife back,” he said. “I have to show her that, though. Hopefully, I can show her while we’re there together.”
