George Floyd’s family announced Tuesday they are filing a $250 million lawsuit against Kanye West over his recent comments about Floyd’s death.
The rapper, who goes by Ye, falsely claimed in a podcast interview on Sunday, Oct. 16, that Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose, not as the result of police brutality.
Roxie Washington, the mother of Floyd’s minor daughter, responded with an announcement saying she’s suing West, his business partners and associates for “harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress.”

The family is seeking $250 million in damages.
In a news release posted on Twitter, attorneys representing Floyd’s daughter said the hip-hop mogul should be held accountable.
“Kanye’s comments are a repugnant attempt to discount George Floyd’s life and to profit from his inhumane death,” attorney Pat D. Dixon III said in a statement. “We will hold Mr. West accountable for his flagrant remarks against Mr. Floyd’s legacy.”
News of the lawsuit came after West told the “Drink Champs” podcast that Floyd’s death was caused by fentanyl use and not by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for 9½ minutes.
“They hit [Floyd] with the fentanyl. If you look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that,” Ye told hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. “They said he screamed for his mama, mama was his girlfriend. It’s in the documentary.”

West was referring to a documentary from conservative commentator Candace Owens titled The Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM. It’s unclear if the Floyd family plans to take legal action against Owens as well.
The rapper’s interview has since been removed from YouTube and the Revolt TV website amid the fallout.
West is also facing backlash for making a series of anti-Semitic comments, most recently in an interview on Monday night with Chris Cuomo on the NewsNation network.
At least Flyod is sober. Three cheers to him for that, LOL.
