Former View co-host Jenny McCarthy has strong words for Whoopi Goldberg.

McCarthy — who co-hosted the popular daytime talk show from July 2013 to June 2014 — slammed Goldberg as “controlling” in an upcoming tell-all book about the show.

An excerpt from the novel, Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View, was published by Vulture on Wednesday, March 20. In the preview, McCarthy talked to the book’s author, reporter Ramin Setoodeh, about her difficult relationships with Goldberg and the show’s creator, Barbara Walters.

“To me, Whoopi had an addiction to controlling people’s thoughts, their words, the room, the table, your feeling, your mood,” the short-lived co-host said. “She had an addiction to controlling all of it and everybody.”

McCarthy said producers tried to pit her against Goldberg after conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck left, stating: “They did try to change me. They wanted Elisabeth back, and I wasn’t Elisabeth. I would literally have meetings before the show of them trying to input opinions in me to go against Whoopi.”

McCarthy also accused the Hollywood vet of bullying Walters over who would moderate the show.

“The table reminds me a little bit of Survivor. There was a war between Barbara and Whoopi about Barbara wanting to moderate,” she explained. “This is one of the reasons I decided not to ally with Whoopi. It broke my heart when Barbara would shuffle to Whoopi and say, ‘Can I moderate please?’ And Whoopi would say ‘no.'”

The former Playboy playmate said she was “miserable” during her time on the show, despite having an ally in her longtime friend and fellow co-host, Sherri Shepherd.

The friends — who left the show at the same time — remain close to this day.

Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View will debut on April 2, 2019.
