Lionel Richie has been hospitalized after becoming ill during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Videos posted to social media showed the legendary singer sitting down on stage while performing “Dancing on the Ceiling” at the Grand Casino Arena on June 24.
“What I have learned about my years of being in the business, when you are feeling dizzy, sit your ass down. And when you are feeling strange about yourself, sit your ass down!” Richie, 77, told the audience per Entertainment Weekly.
In one video on X, a fan included a caption saying attendees were told there would be an unplanned intermission, but the singer “did not return” to the stage.
Saxophonist Dino Soldo eventually came out and told concertgoers the show would not continue.
Paramedics responded to the scene and tended to the singer. The St. Paul Fire Department confirmed to EW that “an adult male was transported” to an area hospital, but did not identify the singer.
Richie has not released a public statement about the incident and his condition is unknown.
Wednesday’s concert marked the opening night of his joint Sing a Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. The next scheduled stop is in Chicago this Friday.
