ABC News is unveiling a one-hour special on the history and impact of female emcees and rappers as told by Eve, Trina, Da Brat and more.
The Real Queens of Hip-Hop: The Women Who Changed the Game – An ABC News Special is narrated by Salt of Salt-N-Pepa and features interviews with additional artists, including City Girls, Monie Love, Yo-Yo and more, the network announced in a press release this week.

The special will chronicle some of the biggest female hip-hop acts and rappers from the 1970s to today, starting with “mother of the mic” MC Sha-Rock. It will also feature original spoken word performances by MC Lyte and an original score by producer, songwriter and record executive WondaGurl.
Per ABC, the artists will get candid about their biggest career moments and share behind-the-scenes looks into their personal stories.
The program also includes a conversation hosted by radio personality and rapper Angie Martinez with Lakeyah, Lil Mama and Roxanne Shanté who discuss their shared experiences on breaking into a male-dominated industry, the industry placing body and beauty pressures on women in the spotlight and how the internet and social media have changed the rap game.

The special is produced by an all-female leadership team at ABC News. Fatima Curry is director, and Melia Patria and Curry are co-executive producers.
The Real Queens of Hip-Hop: The Women Who Changed the Game – An ABC News Special airs Monday, Oct. 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and can be viewed the next day on demand and on Hulu.
The special is meant to tie in with ABC’s primetime drama Queens, which co-stars Eve. The series premiere of Queens is Oct. 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
