Eve Gets Candid About ‘Toxic’ Stevie J Relationship on ‘Ruff Ryders: Chronicles’ (Video)

Rapper Eve and music producer Stevie J were the hip-hop power couple of the late 1990s. However, Eve says the reality is that the relationship took a toll on her health and mental well-being.

On the next episode of BET’s docuseries Ruff Ryders: Chronicles, Eve gets candid about what she calls the most “toxic” relationship of her life.

“At that time, I was also in a relationship that was very toxic. That wasn’t working,” she recalled of her romance with producer and reality TV star Stevie J. “It wasn’t good because here is this person that I thought was the love of my life, is just so unsupportive. It was just so much competition.”

“I went through a depression. I was drinking a lot – a lot,” Eve recalled in a preview clip, “and trying to bury emotions I think.”

Things got so bad that the “Who’s That Girl?” rapper dropped out of her tour early to take care of her emotional well-being.

Eve also shared a more personal message for fans on her Instagram page.

“We recorded my episode for Ruff Ryders, Chronicles this time last year in London,” she captioned a photo of herself on-set.  “Sitting down and talking about RR and how it changed hip hop was such a dope thing to do and remember the good, and sometimes difficult times!”

She went on to express her gratitude for the group. “I’m forever grateful for Ruff Ryders, I wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for the crew,” she wrote.

The episode of Ruff Ryders: Chronicles airs Wednesday at 9/8C on BET.
