CBS has added ten actors to the cast of Beyond the Gates, daytime television’s first Black soap opera in 35 years.
The daytime drama, initially titled The Gates when it was given a series order, is being developed in collaboration between CBS Studios and the NAACP.
On Friday, the network announced its latest cast additions are Brandon Claybon, Timon Durrett, Sean Freeman, Marquita Goings, Maurice Johnson, Trisha Mann-Grant, RhonniRose Mantilla, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Muhammad, and Arielle Prepetit.
They join previously announced lead cast members Tamara Tunie as Anita Dupree, Daphnee Duplaix as Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson, and Karla Mosley as Dani Dupree.
According to the official description, the soap will center on the Duprees, a powerful and affluent Black family living in a posh, gated community in a Maryland suburb outside Washington, D.C. The Duprees are the very definition of “Black royalty,” but behind the pristine walls and manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered.

Beyond the Gates is the first daytime drama with a primarily Black cast since Generations, which aired from 1989 to 1991. It also marks the first new soap since NBC’s Passions debuted in 1999.

Additional executive producers include Sheila Ducksworth, Robert Guza Jr., Julie Carruthers, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld.
Production on Beyond the Gates begins in November, with an anticipated CBS premiere in early 2025.
