Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland rallied voters Friday night in their hometown of Houston, Texas.
The former Destiny’s Child singers appeared at a massive campaign event for Vice President Kamala Harris at Shell Energy Stadium.
The two walked on stage to cheers as their hit 2000 single “Independent Women Part I” played in the background.
“Welcome to my Houston family! I am so proud to be here, back in Houston,” Kelly said to cheers.
She told the crowd now is the time to “grab back the pen from those who are trying to write a story of division and hatred.”

Beyoncé stepped up to the podium next. The singer said she was at the rally as a parent concerned about the nation’s future.
“I’m not here as a celebrity. I’m not here as a politician,” Beyoncé explained. “I’m here as a mother, a mother who cares about the world our children live in, a world where we have the freedom to control our bodies, a world where we are not divided, our past or present or future.”
“It’s time for America to sing a new song. Our voices sing a chorus of unity. They sing a song of dignity and opportunity. Are y’all ready to add your voice to the new American song?” she continued. “Let’s do this.”
Beyoncé did not perform. Instead she introduced Harris, who walked out to the singer’s 2016 single “Freedom,” which has been her campaign anthem.
The Democratic presidential nominee told the crowd women’s reproductive rights are at stake in the election.
“For anyone watching from another state, if you think you are protected from Trump abortion bans because you live in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, New York, California, or any state where voters or legislators have protected reproductive freedom, please know, no one is protected,” Harris said. “Because a Donald Trump national ban will outlaw abortion in every single state.”
The campaign estimated that about 30,000 people attended the rally. The Houston Chronicle reported people started to line up before sunrise.
Others taking the stage at the rally included Beyoncé mother Tina Knowles and country music legend Willie Nelson, 91, who played the guitar and sang.
Former President Donald Trump was also in Texas. He appeared at a rally in Austin, and mocked Beyoncé, Harris and President Joe Biden.
“Joe Biden is asleep and Kamala is at a dance party with Beyoncé,” he said.
Early voting is currently underway in several states and election day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
