Whoopi Goldberg returned to The View on Monday following a two-week suspension for comments she made about the Holocaust on the daytime talk show’s Feb 1. episode.
After taking a seat at The View table, Goldberg addressed her absence and said there would be more “tough conversations” on the show.
“I want to thank everybody who reached out while I was away,” she said during the opening of the show. “It was amazing, and I listened to everything everybody had to say and I was very grateful and I hope it keeps all the important conversations happening because we’re going to keep having tough conversations and in part because this is what we’ve been hired to do.”

The actress and comedian then said the conversation that landed her in hot water was important.
“It’s not always pretty, as I said, and it’s not always as other people would like to hear, but it is an honor to sit at this table and be able to have these conversations because they’re important. They’re important to us as a nation and to us more so as a human entity,” Goldberg explained.
The 66-year-old television personality did not mention her suspension specifically or say why she was suspended.
As previously reported, Goldberg faced an onslaught of criticism for arguing that the Holocaust “isn’t about race” when discussing the recent banning of nonfiction comic book “Maus” in schools.
Once her comments went viral, she issued an apology and ABC News President Kim Godwin decided to place her on suspension to “reflect and learn about the impact of her comments.”
