Jamie Foxx is back — in good health and on stage — in the teaser trailer for his new comedy special What Had Happened Was.

Netflix released the teaser on Friday, Nov. 1. The video is only about 15 seconds long, but it gives viewers an idea that Foxx plans to share details on his 2023 health scare.

“I said, ‘If I can stay funny, I can stay alive,'” Foxx shares.

Later, he tells the audience at the show: “I’m back!”

The actor and comedian made headlines in April 2023, when he was hospitalized in Georgia while filming the Netflix movie Back in Action. He was later transferred to a physical rehabilitation center specializing in stroke recovery in Chicago. But so far, he hasn’t said what caused him to nearly lose his life.

Foxx recorded the stand-up special last month in Atlanta.

CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King was backstage and asked him what it was like talking about his medical emergency on stage.

“It was an excruciating time, to be able to open those wounds every single day,” he replied. “It was excruciating because the worry is what gets you. Yeah, we’ve got a great show in the room, but we don’t know what they may laugh or what they may not laugh at.”

There have been reports that Foxx discussed embattled music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs in the comedy routine, but we’ll have to wait for the special to be released next month to find out what exactly he said.

The special is directed by Hamish Hamilton. Executive producers include Jamie Foxx, Datari Turner, Marcus King, James Longman, Raj Kapoor, Hamish Hamilton, and Katy Mullan.

What Had Happened Was premieres Dec. 10 on Netflix.
