Wendy Williams says her son Kevin Hunter Jr.’s lavish spending triggered her court-ordered guardianship.

The former talk show host made the claim about her 24-year-old son in the new documentary, TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy, which premiered Feb. 12 on the Tubi streaming platform.

“My son, he overstepped his boundaries in terms of me. He overstepped his boundaries and he was inappropriately using my money without telling me crap about it,” Williams told TMZ’s Harvey Levin in a clip from the film.

She continued, “Like, is he stealing from me? Look, all I know is that, in terms of what I’m dealing with, and this is still going on, because that’s when my money got frozen at Wells Fargo, thank God. No more money stealing from my son and the other people.”

In 2022, Wells Fargo filed a petition with a New York state court to have Williams placed under guardianship amid concerns that she was a “victim of undue influence and financial exploitation.”

In the documentary, Levin asked Williams to identify the person that the bank thought was taking her money.

“Look, my son is a good person. But at this point, he is a horrible person to me,” she responded. “The way he moves with other people, and what’s going on with these other people in my apartment in Miami. ‘What are you doing? Oh, you spent on what? What is going on at Wells Fargo?’”

Levin later brought up an incident where Kevin Jr. told his mother he was going to pay $1,500 to rent a boat for his birthday, but instead spent $113,000. He blamed Wells Fargo, claiming the bank wanted that for him, which Levin said didn’t make any sense and Williams agreed.

“Nor me, you know what I’m saying. He has a way of getting with a couple of other people. My son is not the only one involved with my money,” Williams said.

This isn’t the first time questions have been raised about Kevin Jr.’s spending. The issue last came up in the 2024 Lifetime docuseries Where is Wendy Williams?

Williams’ nephew Travis said Wells Fargo froze his aunt’s account after flagging unusual activity, as previously reported.

“The court tried to frame it like her son was using too much of her money,” Travis said. “I think the amount of money that they questioned Kevin about spending was like $100,000.”

Travis then offered a tally of the spending, which turned out to be over $200,000 in one year.

“To put it all in perspective, Kevin’s birthday party that his mom threw that year was like $120,000. Kevin’s rent was $80,000. Kevin’s Uber Eats probably exceeded $100,000 that his mom approves,” Travis said.

At the time, Williams’ son had power of attorney. But a judge had the media mogul legally removed from the care of Kevin Jr. and her family.

A Lifetime producer asked Kevin if he had ever taken money from his mom’s bank account. His response, “Not without her consent.”

In 2023, Williams was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, her guardian has said.

The media mogul is currently fighting to have the guardianship removed.
